Oct 4, 2026 - Grade 7 (Sunday PM)

Hari Om Parents,

We started our class with our opening prayers: Om three times, followed by Sahana Vavatu, Vakratunda Mahakaya, and Saraswati Vandana.

As you know, we held our House Inaugural activity on September 27th. In class, we discussed this special day and asked the children about their experience making the rath for Jagannath Ji, Balbhadra Ji, and Subhadra Ji.

As part of our class, we also took a moment to remember and learn about our Pujaniya Gurudev, Swami Chinmayananda Ji. The children watched a short and inspiring video highlighting his remarkable life, his service to the nation, and his lifelong dedication to preserving, teaching, and spreading the timeless wisdom of Sanatana Dharma, our scriptures, and the knowledge and values of our culture and tradition.

A short introductory video on the Geeta Chanting Primer was also shown to help the children get started.

We then continued our journey into the Ramayana. We followed Rama and Lakshmana as they reached Vishwamitra's ashram.

We learned how the Shree Rama and Lakshmana protected the ashram and helped Vishwamitra complete his yajna.

We discussed the battle at the ashram. Rama killed the rakshasa Subahu and used a powerful arrow to send Maricha far away into the ocean.

We also listened to Vishwamitra's inspiring story. We learned how he was once a powerful king who gave up his kingdom and performed intense meditation and penance to transform himself into a revered Brahmarishi.

Next, we talked about Vishwamitra taking the Rama and Lakshmana to Janakpur. On the way, Rama touched a stone with his foot and freed Ahalya from her curse, restoring her to human form.

We then reached the beautiful city of Janakpur, where Maharaja Janaka had arranged a special challenge with the divine bow of Lord Shiva. Many powerful kings stepped forward to try, but none of them could even move the bow.

We learned how Rama approached the bow with utmost humility and lifted it effortlessly with one hand. As he pulled the string to bend it, the divine bow broke in half with a majestic sound like thunder.

Because he successfully completed the challenge, Rama won the right to marry Princess Sita. Maharaja Janaka happily sent messengers to Ayodhya to share the joyous news with King Dasharatha.

At the end of the class, we had a short quiz to see what the children remembered and learned from our class.

The children participated very well and shared their thoughts as we continued our journey through the Ramayana step by step.

Sep 20, 2026 - Grade 7 (Sunday PM)

Hari Om Parents,

We started our class with our opening prayers:

Om three times, followed by Sahana Vavatu, Vakratunda Mahakaya, and Saraswati Vandana.

We also talked briefly about Ganesh Chaturthi and the story behind the celebration, and why Lord Ganesha is worshipped at the beginning of new beginnings and important occasions.

We then started our journey into the Ramayana. We talked about how the Ramayana is not just a story. It teaches us about values, dharma, duty, relationships, and making the right choices.

We talked about Ravana’s tapasya and the boon he received. We then learned how the Devas went to Lord Vishnu for help and how Lord Vishnu took birth as Shri Rama, along with his brothers.

We also learned about Maharishi Valmiki, his life, his transformation, and his important place in the Ramayana as the Adi Kavi, the first poet, and the composer of the Valmiki Ramayana.

We then followed Rama’s early life in Ayodhya, his childhood, upbringing, and education. We learned that Rama was trained in both shastra (knowledge and scriptures) and shastra (weapons and warfare).

Next, we talked about Vishwamitra coming to Ayodhya and asking King Dasharatha to send Rama with him. Rama and Lakshmana then went with Vishwamitra.

We reached the part where Rama and Lakshmana, while traveling with Vishwamitra, defeated Tataka. This was one of Rama’s first important duties outside Ayodhya.

At the end of the class, we had a short quiz to see what the children remembered and learned from our class.

The children participated very well and shared their thoughts as we learned the Ramayana step by step.

We will continue from here with Rama’s journey with Vishwamitra.

Sep 13, 2025 - Grade 7 (Sunday PM)

Hari Om Parents,
It was so happy and exciting to see all of our Grade 7 children at the very first Ramayana class! After the summer break, it was wonderful to have everyone back at the ashram and to see both familiar and new faces together.
We began with a short introduction session where we teachers and children introduced themselves. Everyone shared a little about their hobbies, interests, and things they enjoy. It was a lovely way to get to know one another and start building a connection as a class.
We then introduced our main theme for the year, "Ramayana". We talked about the meaning of the word Ramayana: Rama + Yana, meaning the journey of Bhagwan Rama. We asked the children what they already knew about Bhagwan Rama and invited each child to share one quality of Bhagwan Rama that came to mind. It was wonderful to hear the different qualities they shared and to see everyone participating so enthusiastically.
This discussion also gave us a sense of the children's familiarity with the Ramayana. While many of them know some of the main characters and events, we will spend the coming classes building a deeper understanding of the story. We will go through the events in sequence and then explore the characters, the importance of dharma, and the values and life lessons that we can take from the Ramayana and apply to our own lives.
We also shared with the children that we will have a fun quiz in an upcoming class to revisit some of the important events of the Ramayana.
Our reference book for the year will be Ramayana by C. Rajagopalachari. There is absolutely no requirement to purchase the book for class. If your child enjoys reading and would like to read it, they are welcome to do so and bring any thoughts, questions, or interesting insights to our class discussions.
Another theme we will be exploring this year is The Key to Success, based on the Vibheeshana Geetha.
We have also sent an invitation to parents to join our class WhatsApp group via an email, which will be our main way of sharing quick updates and communicating throughout the year.
Our class will be participating in Garland making Seva on April 15, 2027. We will share more information about the Seva and the children's participation as we get closer to the date.
Please also save the date for our Class Stage Program on May 2, 2027. We are excited to work with the children and look forward to seeing their enthusiasm and creativity come together for the performance!
We are looking forward to a meaningful and enjoyable year with the children as we learn, reflect, and discover the Ramayana together.
Please feel free to reach out to us anytime if you have any questions.

Best Regards
