Hari Om,
We are excited to continue our Ramayana journey with the children this year! They already have a wonderful foundation, and we are really encouraged by how engaged they are and how carefully they take notes as we build out the different details on the whiteboard.
Ramayana
We began by recapping the first two questions from our previous class:
Who is the author of the Ramayana?
How did the Ramayana begin?
We explored these questions in our previous class, and a summary of that discussion will be coming next! 😄
This week, we continued with the next two questions:
3. What are the different Kandas of the Ramayana?
We introduced the seven Kandas and discussed what each section covers:
Bala Kanda – Rama's birth, childhood, and early life
Ayodhya Kanda – Rama's exile and the events in Ayodhya
Aranya Kanda – Life in the forest and the events leading to Sita's abduction
Kishkindha Kanda – Rama's meeting with Hanuman and Sugriva
Sundara Kanda – Hanuman's journey to Lanka and his meeting with Sita
Yuddha Kanda – The battle in Lanka and Rama's victory
Uttara Kanda – Events following Rama's return to Ayodhya and the later chapters of his life
4. What events led to Rama's birth?
We began exploring the lineage of the Ikshvaku dynasty, King Dasharatha's circumstances, and the events that ultimately led to the birth of Rama and his brothers. We went briefly into Vishvamitra as well which we will get into
Keys to Success
To engage the children, we started with two simple questions: What is a key? and What makes you happy?
These questions led us into a discussion about what it means to be truly successful in life. Through stories and examples, we explored:
Life's Master Key – How the right attitude can unlock many opportunities.
The Horse That Became a Camel – How contentment and being satisfied with what we have can itself be a form of success.
Knowledge as the Master Key – The importance of learning and wisdom as guiding lights in life.
Happiness and Success – How true success is not simply about achievements, but also about finding happiness, balance, and joy in what we do.
We also discussed different scenarios where the children were presented with a problem and encouraged to think through possible solutions. We emphasized looking for answers where we can find them, thinking carefully, and making smart choices when opportunities are presented to us.
We are really looking forward to continuing this journey with the children and exploring the stories, characters, values, and deeper lessons of the Ramayana together throughout the year.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement at home!
Warm regards,
