Hari Om!
Here is the update for last week's class.
We started learning Gita Dhyanam, which is one of the prescribed stotrams for the class and completed the first verse.
We had a good discussion on why and how the Bhagavad Gita is a relevant guide to students at any age. We decided that while one may not face very difficult, life-defining situations, the Gita gives advice on how to handle them when we face them as adults. To that end, it is good to learn and practice from a young age. The Gita also gives relevant advice regarding keeping only good associations (satsanga) in life - beguiling associations corrupt our good habits and eventually make us even forget core values. We listened to Swamiji's message about the chapter we will learn this year- Chapter 6, Yoga of Meditation. The essence is that True Knowledge gives the power to withstand the toughest of situations we can face.
The class spent most of the time revising stories from the Mahabharata- everyone had one or two Amar Chitra Kathas to read from and we started discussion on the Mahabharata timeline.
All students have been sorted into their House, which will be the team they represent for the rest of their balavihar years! House Inaugural is tomorrow (Sunday, Sep 27), so please remind them to wear their House colors!
Best regards
